Bundle up in Style This Winter

The cold weather has come, and it’s here to stay.

It’s that time of the year again when we need to get our insulated jackets, sweaters, boots, and hats ready. But, we all know that with every new season, comes new fashion trends, aka an excuse for shopping! And the only way to prepare for the next upcoming chilly weeks is to add new essentials to our wardrobes.

Coats and jackets are a staple for any outfit for every season—especially during the cold months. And let’s face it, picking out the perfect jacket is extremely difficult with the ever-changing fashion trends. But, don’t worry; I’ve got all the stylish jacket looks you need covered.

Every fashionista knows that puffer jackets aren’t normally dubbed as “sexy” or “chic,” since some can make you look like the Michelin Man or even the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from the Ghostbusters franchise. But the padded jacket has made a comeback during the Autumn/Winter 16-17 Fashion Week, and it’s one of the hottest jacket trends for this winter. And the only way to rock the puffer look is by making sure it has some sort of waist-definer for a sleeker silhouette. Ranging from all sorts of bright and funky colors to neutral ones, the puffer will definitely be keeping you bundled up throughout the freezing months of December to February, while making your outfit look chic as you brave the cold weather.

The shearling jacket has remained as one of the trendiest jackets for the cold weather. Last winter, we saw celebrities like  Rihanna and  Gigi Hadid rock the edgy sheepskin look. (BONUS: Guys can wear it too—take Harry Styles for example.) So whether you are a male or female, get on this trend as soon as possible!

Remember bomber jackets that were all the-rage for autumn? The versatile, military-inspired look is not going anywhere just yet, so don’t let it catch dust in your closet! The same goes for you too, boys!

Another one of the hottest trends for winter 2017 is definitely faux fur. The ever-so-trendy look has been around for decades, and at the rate we’re going, that trend isn’t going to die down anytime soon. Whether it is a jacket or vest, the furry material will no doubt keep you cozy and warm throughout the cold months. It is also perfect for any day to night look that will most definitely be turning heads; it can be worn casually and/or formally—whichever way works for you. Either way, it’s the chicest trend on the winter fashion list. Plus, there are so many shades and animal prints to choose from!.

And speaking of prints, the fashion universe is loving leopard. Leopard is a statement piece. It’s one of those prints that can turn any dull or simple outfit into a fresh and fun one since it’ll stand out.

Like the bomber jacket, over-the-knee boots was a huge fall fashion statement. Now that it’s actually getting colder out, we can put the thigh highs to even greater use. They go great with jeans, but this season it’s all about pairing thigh highs with sweater dresses—in particular, chunky, turtlenecks. This shoe is the perfect way to stay warm and stylish.

This season’s coolest fabrics include velvet, which dominated the Autumn/Winter 16-17 Fashion Week. If you’re going to experiment with any trend, this luxurious fabric is the one to test. Just make sure the velvet look you’re opting for works, otherwise you can turn an outfit from looking edgy to looking cheesy. One way to pull off the trend is by wearing a velvet blazer over a t-shirt with jeans. Or, if you’re really feeling adventurous and want to kill two birds with one stone, sport two trends at once by purchasing velvet over-the-knee boots.

Another cool fabric to get make of this winter is suede. Suede can be worn on almost any piece of clothing. Dresses, vests, skirts, boots—you name it! Suede boots with cropped fringed denim jeans, another big Autumn/Winter trend, is the ultimate statement look. Wear a plaid shirt or loose-fitted button down, and just tuck the front of the shirt into your jeans. But keep in mind, like velvet, if over done, a suede outfit can end up looking tacky!

Also, invest in a pair of denim overalls. Overalls became trendy a few fashion seasons back, and they’re still going strong. They can be styled with any shirt underneath, whether it’s a simple tee or a turtle neck sweater.

And lastly, you can never go wrong with a ribbed beanie hat to keep your head and ears warm during the freezing temperatures you’ll be facing soon.

Get your shopping on so you can be all warm and bundled up, but still be fashionable!
