Coachella, an annual, three-day-weekend music and arts festival held in Indio, California during April, ended last weekend.
Coachella draws celebrities, EDM enthusiasts, and fashionistas from all over America, who come to the desert to have a good time. As much as Coachella’s about the music, the outfits spotted on the “desert runway” are just as important as the musical experience. At Coachella, people push their comfort zones and dress up in creative outfits that can’t always be sported in daily settings. Festival style definitely has a look: fringe, floral crowns, loose maxi dresses, denim cutoffs, and crop tops. These items were worn by many this year, but freshened up with new details.
Here were some of the fashion hits donned by the it-girls who attended Coachella 2016:
Colorful wigs: Kylie Jenner has become known for her collection of colorful wigs, and at Coachella, she debuted a few more looks. She was seen in long peach locks as well as a pastel colored rainbow wig that was braided. Bella Thorne was also seen wearing a purple faux bob to Coachella. Each enjoyed the pop of color without the commitment!
All-White Ensembles: Many festival fashionistas opted for a cool, summery, all-white, for a look that polished and sophisticated, yet totally festival appropriate. This option could be worn as either as a top or dress, with lace and crochet detailing. Fashion blogger Aimee Song opted for white top and skirt from Free People, while Jaime Chung was spotted in a lace-paneled “LWD” (little white dress) with a black belt. With mirrored sunnies and embellished boots, these looks can easily be recreated and worn in Spring and Summer 2016.
High-waisted denim shorts and hints of fringe: These continue to be a go-to festival choice because they’re comfortable and can easily dress up any t-shirt, adding a Boho vibe that is perfect for Coachella. This year, they were worn primarily with lace bralettes and off-the-shoulder, ruffley crop-tops. They can also be paired with fringe jackets or vests, as seen on Gigi Hadid.
Choker necklaces and delicate jewelry: Chokers have made a comeback! They were spotted on models like Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and Bella Hadid. Options include thick or thin black velvet chokers, classic plastic chokers, and metallic chokers. Chokers add edge and elevate any simple outfits. Body chains are also a fun way to jazz up a body suit or crop top, and were also seen on Bella Hadid.
Coachella and music festival season in general is always a fun time because it serves as a reminder that summer is near! Festivalgoers’ fashion choices reflect a combination of creativity, modernity, edge, and comfort that many of us aim for when creating an outfit, even in our day-to-day lives. See which of these items you could incorporate into your spring and summer wardrobe this year.
