The Brooklyn College men’s tennis team has started off its season with consecutive wins, after defeating both Lehman College and Rutgers-Camden by a score of 7-2.
In the match against Lehman College on March 14, Brooklyn was able to dominate the Lighting in both single and doubles play for a majority of the matchup. Rohan Mathur swept his singles match (6-2, 6-3), providing a heavy contribution in the Bulldogs’ victory.
Both Samuel Meyerovich and Chevaughn Mattis also swept singles play for the Bulldogs, by scores of 6-3, 6-0, and 6-1, 7-6, respectively.
The duos of Mathis/Justin Vasquez and Meyerovich/Julian Calame-Mars were able to earn victories in doubles play, where Brooklyn took two of three matches.
After the victory over Lehman College, the Bulldogs hit the road to take on Rutgers-Camden. Brooklyn was able to secure two of three double matches and five of six single matches. The wins were accompanied by Vasquez’s first win as a member of the Bulldogs.
Meyerovich was also able to earn a victory after falling 6-1 in the first set of singles. His comeback victory included a 7-5 victory in the second set, following up with a leveling performance and a 10-6 victory in the tie-breaking superset.
In the two victories, Mathur was able to earn City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Rookie of the Week. Calame-Mars was able to earn a straight shutout in singles play.
The team’s next match will be on Long Island, as Brooklyn will travel to St. Joseph’s College. The team looks to continue to stay undefeated with their young talent.
